The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) was established to help us:
“The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is the nation’s leading nonprofit voluntary health organization dedicated to finding the causes of and cure for lupus and providing support and services to all people affected by lupus. See the ten reasons why the LFA is leading the way!”
In my many, many google searches of lupus, the majority of the information came from this website’s “Learning about Lupus“. I recommend to any “newbie” (or even veteran patients) to join the LFA so that you can take advantage of all their resources.
The Texas Gulf Coast Chapter shares the same vision of the LFA and is composed of the greatest people.
The Texas Gulf Coast Chapter is proud to be lead by a strong Board of Directors who provide governance, strategic advice and development assistance.
In addition, the Medical Advisory Board is an organization of physicians and health care workers devoted to the treatment of lupus and related disease with two main goals: 1) to educate patients as well as the general public throughout the Texas Gulf Coast Region, and 2) to support research that fosters excellence in the care of patients or advances our understanding of the disease.”
If you live in the Houston-area, I recommend visiting this site. There are many educational seminars and social events that allow you to not only learn more about lupus BUT it gives you the golden opportunity to meet other fabulous lupus patients.
For all of us Facebook junkies, The LFA Texas Gulf Chapter is also on Facebook! Please like the page to receive up-to-date information regarding medical news and events: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lupus-Foundation-of-America-Texas-Gulf-Coast-Chapter/102197827444
